India’s first Airport Like Station!


Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday shared the photos of India’s first centrally AC railway terminal which resembles an airport.

Sir M. Visvesvaraya is India’s first centralised AC Terminal,


Named after one of the foremost Civil Engineers Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya.
A benchmark for future Railway terminals. It will meet the future connectivity needs of Bengaluru & promote the city as the epicenter of socio-economic development.


The station building is of 4,200 square meter covered area to cater to daily footfalls of 50,000.
It has a fully air-conditioned entrance lobby and a well-marked parking space for four-wheelers and two-wheelers with a capacity of 250 and 900 respectively.
Wide Foot over bridge and two subways (with ramps—Divyanjan friendly) connecting all the platforms. Escalators, Lifts to facilitate passengers movement, besides stairs: Divyang-friendly Railway Station. One dedicated ticket counter also provided for Divyangjan/differently-abled.
The terminal will have seven platforms, three enabling lines and three pit lines. The terminal is built in an area of 4,200 sq. km and is expected to get footfalls of more than 50,000 on a daily basis with 50 trains running on an average per day.
The terminal will have a well marked parking space for 250 four wheelers, 900 Two Wheelers, 50 Auto Rickshaws and 20 Cabs
A dedicated bus bay – For holding buses to provide a multimodal seamless connectivity to important places in the city.Well designed spacious landscape in circulating area.
Recycling plant with capacity of 4 lakh litres of water and rain water harvesting.
According to the railway officials, the air-conditioned SMV Railway Terminal is a ₹314 crore project. It has solar rooftop panels and rainwater harvesting mechanism.
The officer said it has an upper-class waiting hall and reserved (VIP) lounge, food court, escalators, lifts connecting all platforms to facilitate passenger movement to all seven platforms, foot-over-bridge connecting all platforms, along with two subways.
